in 2018 I’m going to try really freaking hard to not be all “doom and gloom” about the Broncos this week. I mean Youth Connor McGovern Jersey , I predicted this outcome twice last week. Once in my NFL Predictions column, and the other in the Staff’s column. Sure, I was the only staff member who lives in the real world and saw this as the loss it was always going to be, but it still hurts to see it unfold the way it did. Here’s the thing: Yes, the Broncos got jobbed on some straight up game wrecking calls. We also got jobbed on a bunch of legit calls. Now to answer your obvious question: If the call was legit (such as holding) then how in the hell did the Broncos get jobbed? I’m so glad you asked, and the answer is simple: Because they didn’t call holding on the Ravens when there was obvious holding, yet they called it on the Broncos when there was obvious holding. Look, if you’re gonna call a game one way, at least call it the same way for both freaking teams! /End RantThe Good: We were hella efficient in the opening 2 drives. 1 pay and a touchdown. Another play and another touchdown. The rout was on, right? DT also remembered his hands that day. And, umm, umm, umm, yeah, that’s about it. That’s all I got for the good. The Bad: Our quarterback is SURELY better than this, right? Look Case, you’re apparently going to throw interceptions no matter what, so at least do so while trying to run an electric and high tempo offense. I’d rather you throw 3 INTS like you did in week 1 and have us look like an offense that is waiting to explode than throw 1 interception and have us look like Siemian Lite out there. How about our secondary? Do you want to know the most troubling stat I have seen all year? 8.2 and 8.0. What are those numbers? 8.2 is the number of yards per pass play that the Broncos allow. Ok, so what’s the 8.0? That’s the yards per pass play that the Kansas City Chiefs allow. Yes ladies and gentlemen, the Chiefs and their “sad ass defense” is actually BETTER than the Broncos “we got an amazing defense!” Why do I mention that? Oh, you know, because we play them next Monday. And if the Chiefs Offense is a McClaren P1, then the Broncos offense is a beat-up rust bucket that backfires and has bathroom towels as seat covers. But fear not Broncos Country, at least their defense is pathetic so it’ll keep us in the game, right? Yeah, until you look and see our defense is actually more pathetic in the passing game, you know, where most of NFL offense is generated. So yeah, color me pessimistic about our chances. I’m hoping the Chiefs “only” double our score and don’t triple it... at home... in Denver... in Prime Time. Now onto the rankings. Remember, I’m ranking teams as they stand TODAY. Not a culmination of last year or the last decade. If they look like they are world beaters today, they’ll be ranked high regardless of what their record is. After-all, if we went by record alone, then Power Rankings wouldn’t exist Cheap Courtland Sutton Jersey , you could just look in your local newspaper (do they even exist anymore?) to see the standings.POWER RANKINGS WEEK 41. Los Angeles Rams:The Rams are the NFL’s best and most complete team. Their defense is legit and their offense is high scoring. Now be honest with me people, who here saw Talib snatch that ball for a fumble and think to themselves “why did we trade him away again? Oh yeah, because he thought Vance Joseph was a crap coach... which he is!” Yeah, you are missed Talib. Sorely missed.2. Kansas City Chiefs:I think the Chief fans are in denial about their team. Last week I had them #2 and they bitched and moaned that the Jags were. So after I was proven 100% correct, what will their excuse be to complain this week? Is it because their QB is in a “slump” because he only threw 3 TDs instead of 5? Look, the Rams are clearly the best team in the NFL, but the Chiefs are clearly the 2nd best. The NFL is currently like the NBA, 2-4 mega good teams, and then “the rest.” The AFC and NFC have the two best teams in football. Everyone else is just cannon fodder till playoff time. 3. Philadelphia Eagles:We now see the Eagles start to move towards their end of year lofty perch. Carson Wentz showed that there wasn’t a whole hell of a lot of rust, and he’s picking up where he left off, which is music to all their fans’ ears. 4. New Orleans Saints:The Saints look a lot like the Chiefs, just with a worse defense (who knew that was even possible?). They are scoring at will, but also giving up scores almost as frequently. Why have them at #4? Because why not? Outside of the two top teams, all the others have plenty of flaws. If the Eagles pick up with Wentz where they left off, then we’ll have a clear Top 3. But after that, the Saints are as worthy as any to be right here.5. Jacksonville Jaguars:The waters are muddy for the next 5-10 teams. Are the Jags better? Probably, but how can we be so sure when you score a whopping 6 points! That’s inexcusable for a Top 5 team and borderline inexcusable for a Top 12 team. Fortunately for them, there were a lot of eggs laid this last Sunday, so here you go. You’re welcome Blake Bortles.6. Carolina Panthers:Look at C.J. Anderson rumbling down the sideline! This team can do some good things if they don’t try getting too cute.7. Cincinnati Bengals: Are they really this high? For today they are simply because I don’t trust anyone else below them to really be better than them today. 8. Baltimore Ravens:Much like the Bengals, they are really here by default as there really isn’t many teams below them that I’d trust to beat them, or at least be this high up. I told you the waters are muddy in no-mans-land.9. Miami Dolphins:I struggle with these guys as I’m still not sure if they are really all that good or if they’re just this lucky. But if Woody Harrelson taught us anything in Zombieland, “Sometimes its better to be lucky than good.” So here you go Miami, Top 10 for you!10. Cleveland Browns:WHAT?!?! Yes, Baker Mayfield mania is gonna take over! The Browns defense is legit and now their offense can score. Isn’t that right Baker?11. Washington Redskins:Say hello to the last “if the playoffs started today, this is the last team in” teams. Are they deserving? Who the hell knows anymore. Show me a team outside of the Rams that isn’t flawed and I’ll answer this question for you. But they are playing above average for the 2018 season, especially seeing up is now down with the historically dominant teams looking so “meh”.12. Green Bay Packers:I’m not sure I want to put them here, but everyone else around them is crumbling just as fast. At least they still have a semi-healthy Aaron Rodgers, and eventually Clay Matthews won’t be called for roughing the passer. Maybe. 13. Chicago Bears:I simply can’t put them higher than the Packers seeing the Packers beat them already. Mack is looking like he plays Michael Schofield every week. Maybe he needed to get out of Oakland to see his true potential? 14. Denver Broncos:Let the free-fall begin. If they play this brand of pathetic defense and offense, we shouldn’t count on a much better record than last year. I believe Doc Holiday said it best:15. Tampa Bay Buccaneers:It looked like the clock had struck midnight on Fitzmagic, but 17 unanswered points in the second half keeps that dream alive for Bucs fans, even if it was complete garbage time! 16. Tennessee Titans:Why? Because I’m still not a believer. Hey, they beat Blake Bortles and held him to 6 points. But is that really an accomplishment? Is it? ... IS IT?!?!???17. Atlanta Falcons:I almost feel sorry for the Dirty Birds. They are so close to being 3-0. I believe the phrase is “Always a bridesmaid, never the bride!” 18. Minnesota Vikings:hahahahahaha wow Womens Jake Butt Jersey , best $90 million EVER! hahahahahahaha19. Indianapolis Colts:They’re close to being good again. With each rep, Andrew Luck gets better. It’s still interesting that they pulled him for a Hail Mary throw. Is it because he’s lacking the strength? Or is it because they didn’t want to risk injury by having him air it out? 20. New England Patriots:I LOVE watching this team in full decline. I don’t expect it to last much longer, and they’ll probably finish the season something ridiculous like 14-2, but today, as they stand, they aren’t all that good. 21. Los Angeles Chargers:They aren’t all that bad, but they aren’t all that good either. One thing is for sure though, Antonio Gates is gonna destroy the Broncos defense. He looked 25 out there on Sunday, and we have to play them twice in the last few weeks of the season! Yikes!22. Pittsburgh Steelers:Mike Tomlin might bet canned. And you know what? That bodes well for the Broncos. Why? Because you might be looking at our next head coach. This team is destroying itself from the inside, but they still have a ton of talent.23. Oakland Raiders:Once they pull it together, they’ll start winning a few. They are in every game they play, right up until the wheels fall off. They aren’t as bad as the other undefeated teams, but they until they can learn how to win a game, its safe to say they are losers.24. New York Jets:They have their rookie QB starting, and he looks just like a rookie QB. He has his ups and his downs. They are playing semi-decent in between the growing pains, which is enough to keep them out of the bottom of the barrel. 25. Buffalo Bills:Darnold won in his first start. Mayfield won in his first action. Now Allen wins in his first start. I’m beginning to see a trend here. Then again, Darnold sucked in his second start, so the jury is out on if Allen will be good, bad, or in between in his second start. Which is why they’re landing where they are on these rankings.26. Dallas Cowboys:I’m not sure what to make of this team. They aren’t any good, yet have all the flashes of hope you’d want from a younger core of players. But they’ve already gone through their growing pains, so is this really all that can be expected? Or does their coaching staff just needing to be replaced?27. Seattle Seahawks:Their defense seems to be the only thing working for them, and it isn’t a historically great defense anymore, so it isn’t nearly enough as they figure out what they have on offense and how to protect Wilson.28. New York Giants:Throwing around all that money to dependent players seems to be the perfect plan... if that plan is to lose and look stupid in doing so. Yes, I get great pleasure out of watching this team and a few of their players suffer. Deal with it.29. Detroit Lions:I’m not sure if they’re on the up-tick or not, but they did just beat the Patriots who seem to be a shell of their former self. So lets string together a few more wins before you see real movement from the bottom dwellers. Until then, I’m chalking this up to Matt Patricia knowing the Patriots offense.30. Houston Texans:I’m still waiting for the magic to happen. Now at this point, I hope it doesn’t happen until after the Broncos play them.31. Arizona Cardinals:But boy oh boy did they try to win. Now we can finally see the Josh Rosen era ushered in.Seriously, can they PLEASE trade us Patrick Peterson? Please? 32. San Francisco 49ers:I hate to kick anyone when they’re down, but they are officially done with Garoppolo out for the year with a torn ACL. #1 draft pick, here you come! I’m not saying that Vegas should give me a job, but Vegas should give me a job! Swung on and missed the Cardinals pulling their heads out and beating the 49ers, and that the Saints would straight up whoop on Kirk Cousins’ Vikings (which I love when the Vikings lose cause Cousins is a natural loser Womens Garett Bolles Jersey , a real Munson). The trade deadline has come and gone, and we all know that Demaryius Thomas is no longer with the Broncos. I’m saddened by this as I really liked him, and dropped passes aside, he was a great Bronco for 8+ years. With that said, I don’t think his production will be missed as the Broncos have Courtland Sutton and Tim Patrick to more than replace him. I’m also kinda happy for DT to get him with a vastly superior QB situation in Houston. I anticipate him having a bit of an impact (maybe a TD or two) against his former team on Sunday. Looks like its time to retire my DT jersey, along side my Talib jersey and Sharpe jersey. But then what in the world will I wear to our games? Onto the picks!Last Week: 12-2Overall: 71-47-2Oakland Raiders (1-6) at San Francisco 49ers (1-7) 6:20pm FOX/NFLN TNFI’m pretty sure the only people who will tune into this game are people who are either a) paid to watch (announcers), b) have skin on the game, or c) friends and family. If you don’t fall into any of the three categories and you still watch this game, you really need to look long and hard in the mirror and ask yourself why your life is so horrible that you can’t find a single thing better to do with a Thursday night than watch this game. And then make some adjustments so your future doesn’t continue to suck the way the Raiders do. Prediction: Who Cares. But also Oakland 6, 49ers 10Pittsburgh Steelers (4-2-1) at Baltimore Ravens (4-4) 11:00am CBSOn offense, the Steelers beat the Ravens like they owe them money. On defense, the Ravens are pretty stout but have been vulnerable. And that’s the key to this game: Vulnerability. Prediction: Steelers 27, Ravens 23Chicago Bears (4-3) at Buffalo Bills (2-6) 11:00am FOXI bet the Bills still wish they had Tyrod Taylor right about now. But they don’t. Just like I bet the Bills wish they’d win this week, yet they won’t. Prediction: Bears 24, Bills 6Tampa Bay Buccaneers (3-4) at Carolina Panthers (5-2) 11:00am FOXOk, serious question time, who are the Bucs starting at QB for this game? They benched Winston, they’ve already benched Fitzmagic, so who’s left? Or do they go back to Fitzy? And more importantly, does it even matter? Prediction: Bucs 13, Panthers 23Kansas City Chiefs (7-1) at Cleveland Browns (2-5-1) 11:00am CBSWant to know what’s crazy? Even in the “close” game and “Broncos held them down” game, Mahomes still threw for 4 TD’s. Prediction: Chiefs 45, Browns 23New York Jets (3-5) at Miami Dolphins (4-4) 11:00am CBSThis game is disgusting. I want to pick Miami, but I’m scared to do so. Why does Miami have to be so bland? Prediction: Jets 13, Dolphins 17Detroit Lions (3-4) at Minnesota Vikings (4-3-1) 11:00am FOXAs much as I’d love to pick against the Vikings, Detroit just isn’t really all that good. They are one of the worst 3 win teams, and the Vikings are semi-decent even if they routinely find ways to shoot themselves in the foot. For all those pretty stats Cousins has, don’t look now, but just like in Washington, he isn’t producing wins. Unlike Keenum for them last year. Yes, I said it! Prediction: Lions 17, Vikings 31Atlanta Falcons (3-4) at Washington Redskins (5-2) 11:00am FOXHere’s the thing about the Falcons: They have talent and have the ability to hang with the big dogs. But they are snake bitten. Meanwhile, the Redskins http://www.denverbroncosteamonline.com/todd-davis-jersey , armed with Alex Smith, keep on churning out victory after victory all the way into the NFC East lead. What I’m trying to say is that the Redskins are stable. Well, relatively stable if you simply compare them to the Eagles, Cowboys, and Giants. But that’s all they have to be, so, job well done. Prediction: Falcons 24, Redskins 27Houston Texans (5-3) at Denver Broncos (3-5) 2:05pm CBSIf recent home history is an indicator, the Broncos will have all the firepower to win this game. They’ve held the Chiefs and Rams to season lows even in defeat. But they also just traded away DT, so there might be some revenge factors going on there for Houston. Most of me thinks the Texans will win because Deshaun Watson is a freak of nature, but the rest of me thinks that if the Broncos can ground the Chiefs and Rams, then they can ground the Texans. Prediction: Texans 23, Broncos 27Los Angeles Chargers (5-2) at Seattle Seahawks (4-3) 2:05pm CBSDon’t get it twisted, the Chargers are a better team than Seattle. But that hopped up on caffeine crowd in Seattle gets LOUD!!! They have a good 12th man (crowd), but it isn’t as good as the Broncos 12th man, which the Chargers are use to playing against, so I think they’re neutralized. Is Joey Bosa back or not? That could be the factor here, and he’s looking to be a game time decision along with Melvin Gordon. Prediction: Chargers, 27, Seahawks 30 Los Angeles Rams (8-0) at New Orleans Saints (6-1) 2:25pm FOXThis is the co-game of the week. The Rams are clearly the cream of the crop, but the Saints with only one loss have something to say about that. It’s also in New Orleans. Is this the week that the Rams finally go down? I love going to Broncos home games, but I might, MIGHT have to fly out to New Orleans to see if the Rams finally lose. Who want’s to come with me? I can think of one I want, well, four so it’s more memorable, but... Predictions: Rams 35, Saints 38Green Bay Packers (3-3-1) at New England Patriots (6-2) 6:20pm NBC SNFThis is the other game of the week. It’s more about the QB showdown than the teams, but that’s kinda the way the NFL is structured these days. How do you ever pick against Rogers (even though apparently you could have correctly picked against him 4 times already)? Then again, how insane do you have to be to pick against Brady at home? And that I think is why we all know who will win this game even if we hate to admit it. Prediction: Packers 31, Patriots 34Tennessee Titans (3-4) at Dallas Cowboys (3-4) 6:15pm ESPN MNFI mean, at least this isn’t Raiders vs 49ers. But I’m not sure I have much more to say. “Meh” team against “Meh” team. Woo Hoo. Color me uninspired. Prediction: Titans 20, Cowboys 22
with Seattle in August K.J. Wright Jersey , and the team unwilling to do the same for safety Earl Thomas ahead of his season-ending injury earlier this month, defensive end Frank Clark has become the most pressing potential contract extension for the Seahawks.Clark is set to reach free agency in March after his initial four-year rookie contract as a second-round pick in 2015 comes to an end. But Clark isn’t pushing hard to get a new deal done with the Seahawks as soon as possible. According to Brady Henderson of ESPN.com, Clark’s agent, Erik Burkhardt, said Clark has taken out an insurance policy to cover any potential loss in value due to an injury prior to reaching free agency. They don’t intend to settle for a deal now that will appear to be below market value when new deals are dished out around the league in March.“Obviously players want a long-term deal because this game is dangerous and violent and everything else, but I’m going to continue to bet on my guy.” Burkhardt said. “You look at a guy like Kirk Cousins who played out the franchise tag Cheap Doug Baldwin Jersey , that’s not all bad either. He did that because he believed in himself and also knows teams can’t usually find top quarterbacks in free agency. The pass-rush market is much the same in that aspect. It’s supply and demand.”Clark is putting together his best season with the Seahawks. He’s recorded 5.5 sacks with an interception and two forced fumbles in the first six games of the season. Clark had another would-be strip-sack of Jared Goff in Week Five only for Goff to pick up the loose ball and throw it away, negating the statistic. Even without Michael Bennett and Cliff Avril to help take some of the attention away from Clark, he’s still causing problems for opposing offensive lines.Clark has 24.5 sacks since the start of the 2016 season are tied for 10th most in the league over that span. Burkhardt believes Clark is every bit that type of talent and can command top-end pass rusher money on the open market.“I don’t care if those guys were high first-round picks,” he said. “I don’t mind being quoted saying I absolutely put Frank in that echelon with those guys, so I’m not going to sit here and do a deal early and then watch in March when those guys get $X million a year and Frank not be in that range. Why would we do that? I feel like I have just as good of a player, and I want to be very clear Justin Britt Jersey , that is not a knock on anybody. Frank is on that level and I believe everybody around the league will tell you that as well.”He made it clear that they have a great relationship with the Seahawks and have had good discussions with the team about a possible new deal with the team. However, they want any new deal to adequately represent Clark’s value and believe that deal will most likely come upon reaching free agency. Just two weeks after Seattle Seahawks owner Paul Allen revealed that his non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma has returned, the billionaire businessman has passed away at the age of 65. Paul’s sister, Jody Allen, released this statement on behalf of the Allen family on Monday. If not for Paul Allen, the city of Seattle would almost certainly not have an NFL team right now. He purchased the Seahawks in 1996 for $200 million Cheap Ethan Pocic Jersey , saving the franchise from being moved to Southern California by Ken Behring. Less than ten years after Allen’s acquisition, the Seahawks became a regular playoff team, reaching the Super Bowl for the first time in franchise history in 2005. Allen would hoist the team’s first Super Bowl trophy eight seasons later on February 2nd, 2014, and the Seahawks are undeniably in the midst of their greatest run ever. Allen was diagnosed with Hodgkin’s lymphoma in 1982, successfully treating that with several months of radiation. His non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma diagnosis occurred in 2009 Duane Brown Jersey , again overcoming the disease. Unfortunately, his latest battle with cancer could not be overcome.RIP Paul Allen: 1953-2018.
Cheap Dede Westbrook Jersey , sitting at 3-5 and headed into an AFC South showdown against the Indianapolis Colts in a game that could either keep their season alive or put an end to it. One aspect of the Jaguars that is still actually good however, is the defense. It’s a group that has taken a lot of heat this season for not being as good as last season, which is simultaneously true and false. The 2017 defense played at a historically unsustainable level, which was questions mid-season on if it would hold up. Surprisingly it did, but as we’ve seen this year, the 20 sacks in two games and an absurd number of turnovers and points off turnovers just aren’t there. The defense this year is just as good in some areas, but those flash plays just aren’t there right now.I wrote about it earlier in the year when the defense was being questioned, but the point made then still stands now. The defense is still good and it’s going to be good through the rest of the season just for the sheer amount of talent it has assembled. The Jaguars defense is allowing 21 points per game, which is a five-point increase from last season, but the offense this season is averaging only 16.8 points per game Malik Jackson Jersey , which is a near full 10 points less than what they averaged last season. The uptick in points scored and down tick in turnovers and sacks is impacted in large part because of the ineffectiveness of the offense. The Jaguars still put the most pressure on the opposing team’s quarterback on a per snap basis. There are various contributions as to why the pressure is there and the actual sacks aren’t. Teams are doing a lot more quick passing against the Jaguars, the Jaguars playing more off-coverage and quarters than usual and quite simply just not playing Tom Savage and Jacoby Brissett. There’s another factor as well with both the sacks and the turnovers in that teams are not being forced into being one dimensional against the Jaguars defense like they were last season. Last year the Jaguars offense took care of the football and scored points. This year they turn the ball over a ton and struggle to score points. That means teams aren’t playing catch-up like they were last year and aren’t playing into the teeth of the Jaguars defense. The defense after all is built to get pressure with the front-four and cover with seven. Right now, teams are able to stay balanced in their offense because they’re not playing catch-up and it limits the Jaguars defense’s ability because of how they’re built to play.Even with all the offensive struggles, the Jaguars defensively have only allowed 16 touchdowns on the season, which is the second least in the NFL. They’ve only allowed a team to score touchdowns in the first quarter twice all season, against the Kansas City Chiefs and the Dallas Cowboys. They’ve allowed a combined six points in the first quarter in the last two games, both of which the Jaguars lost. They’ve allowed a total of two touchdowns and five field goals on the season in the first quarter through eight games, so the notion that they offense is put in a hole as well doesn’t really hold up outside of two games. They’ve done all this with one of the worst offenses in the NFL backing them up, an offense that also turns the ball over a ton and puts the opposing team in striking distance for points, and operating with some of the worst starting field position (as a defense) in the NFL.They’re still in the top half of the NFL in third down stop percentage while being on pace to face the most third downs. They’re near the bottom of the league in time of possession (how often they’re on the field) and still manage to have one of the better statistical defenses in the league. This isn’t to say the defense hasn’t had their faults this year or are blameless for being 3-5 so far this season Youth Logan Cooke Jersey , they have. They’ve dropped interceptions and missed tackles. They leave a lot to be desired against the run when an offense can stay balanced, but that’s also not really what they’re built for. Some players like Telvin Smith and A.J. Bouye are having up and down seasons, but collectively as a unit the defense is still really good. The Jaguars defense is still really good, overall have been good this year. The Jaguars offense on the other hand has been a total disaster outside of two games and that’s put even more stress on the defense to carry the team. I understand the expectations are for the defense to carry the offense, to a degree, but the amount they’re being expected to this season is unrealistic. In order to see the Jaguars defense we saw last year, flying all over the place and forcing turnovers, the offense is going to have to find a way to get out of reverse. The demise of the Jaguars defense has been greatly exaggerated.Week 3 Pro Football Focus insights: Jacksonville Jaguars offensive line performs well Pro Football Focus is charting everything when it comes to the 2018 NFL regular season and that includes the Week 3 matchup between the Jacksonville Jaguars and Tennessee Titans. So who was the cream of the crop on Sunday? Let’s check it out!OffenseDespite a poor offensive display from the offense, the offensive line did a good job of keeping quarterback Blake Bortles free from pressure. On 40 dropbacks the offensive line only allowed four total pressures and ranked second with a pass blocking efficiency of 93.7Running back T.J. Yeldon earned an elusive rating of 112.1 on his touches against the Titans. This ranked second among running backs (minimum six touches) as he forced three total missed tackles on his 13 touches.DefenseInterior defender Marcell Dareus was the Jaguars highest graded player on Sunday with an overall PFF grade of 80.5. He dominated in the run game picking up three stops on 26 snaps for a run stop percentage of 11.5. Safety Tashaun Gipson Sr. was also a big contributor in the run game. His four run stops ranked first among safeties in Week 3 and his run stop percentage of 13.8 ranked fourth. Who else stood out to you from Week 3? Let us know in the comments below!
while the Seattle Seahawks played divisional opponents. It’s back this week with a look around the division http://www.seahawksauthorizedshops.com/authentic-russell-wilson-jersey , and the admittance that the race for first place is already almost over.Los Angeles Rams 23 Denver Broncos 20Isaiah J. Downing-USA TODAY SportsIt was a cold, snowy day in Denver (although the snow stopped before kickoff), and the Los Angeles Rams relied heavily on their running game and defense to hold off a Broncos team that looks like it’s in need of a rebuild. Denver’s vaunted defense of 2015 is a shell of itself, as they became the first team in NFL history to allow consecutive 200-yard rushing performances to opposing running backs. It was Isaiah Crowell two weeks ago, and it was Todd Gurley on Sunday, who gained 208 yards on 28 carries and two touchdowns, as Jared Goff struggled and only completed half of his passes, throwing an interception along the way. While the Rams secondary got picked on by Case Keenum, who went 25/41 for 322 yards and 2 touchdowns (with an interception), the run defense that got destroyed by the Seahawks tightened up this time around, holding the Broncos to just 60 yards on 17 attempts. A moment of controversy occurred in the 1st quarter when Emmanuel Sanders was penalized for taunting on an apparent touchdown pass, except he was ruled down at the 1 and the penalty put the Broncos back to the Rams’ 16 instead of those 15 yards being assessed on the kickoff. Denver wound up kicking a field goal. Ouch.Perhaps the biggest thing of note from this Rams win beyond maintaining their undefeated record is the fact that star WR Cooper Kupp is somehow not out long-term after this gruesome looking knee injury. He won’t play this Sunday, though. At 6-0 and three games ahead of the Seahawks with the tiebreaker in hand, it’s safe to say that it’ll take a miracle for Seattle to win back the NFC West.Side note, I wish the Seahawks had played the Broncos later in the season. Just imagine how many yards Chris Carson and Mike Davis would gain with DJ Fluker and JR Sweezy at the guard positions.Minnesota Vikings 27 Arizona Cardinals 17Jeffrey Becker-USA TODAY SportsWell the first thing to take away from this picture is the fact that a linebacker shouldn’t be the nearest man in coverage on Adam Thielen. Arizona’s pass defense was actually more than respectable, as Kirk Cousins committed two turnovers, one which ended up being a fumble return touchdown by Budd Baker, but they were gashed for nearly 200 yards on the ground by one of the NFL’s worst rushing offenses. Josh Rosen was a respectable 21/31 for 240 yards and an interception, although he was sacked four times. David Johnson had the Cardinals’ only offensive touchdown, and he could’ve had another but was stopped on 4th-and-goal from the 1, at a time when the game was 10-3 Minnesota. Shockingly 12th Fan Jersey , jamming the square peg through the round hole is not working out for Arizona Cardinals offensive coordinator Mike McCoy.Green Bay Packers 33 San Francisco 49ers 30Photo by Dylan Buell/Getty ImagesAs much as we rag on the San Francisco 49ers, their point differential is only -31, which isn’t awful for a 1-5 team. Their heaviest defeat was by 15 against the Kansas City Chiefs, and obviously they lost Jimmy Garoppolo for the season in that game. Even with C.J. Beathard at the helm, they only came up short by 2 points at the Los Angeles Chargers and 3 points at the Green Bay Packers. Yes, the 10-point loss against the Arizona Cardinals was terrible, but they doubled Arizona in terms of total yards on offense and had 33 first-downs to 10 for the Cardinals... it’s just that you won’t win when the turnover count is 5-0 in the opposition’s favor.Looking at Monday night’s thriller at Lambeau Field, the first quarter was back-and-forth chaos, with Green Bay coming out of it up 17-14. From there, the much-maligned 49ers defense actually frustrated Aaron Rodgers and company, keeping them out of the end zone until late in the 4th quarter. Unfortunately for the Niners, even with their spell of four consecutive scoring drives, they were still only up 30-23 with 13 minutes left in the game. Two impressive stands were made defensively, but the offense bogged down and only managed 13 net yards on its final three possessions, including a Beathard interception thrown to Kevin King in the two-minute drill. You give Aaron Rodgers another opportunity and he’ll make you pay, isn’t that right Richard Sherman? The non-Sherman 49ers secondary is a dumpster fire, and Rodgers picked on poor Greg Mabin for several plays, setting up Mason Crosby’s game-winning field goal as time expired. Great redemption for Crosby after missing four field goals and an extra point in Detroit the week prior. last week was disrupted by the windy conditions Cheap Sam Darnold Jersey , it doesn’t get any easier this week as they head to the Windy City to face the Bears. Although Chicago is only 3-3, they shouldn’t be underestimated, as their three losses have been by one, three and seven points. They’re looking to avoid a three-game losing streak though.Let’s review how their roster shapes up:QuarterbacksThe Bears quarterback is Mitchell Trubisky, who is in his second year as a starter having taken over the reins early on in his rookie season. Statistically, he’s off to a good start, as he has a quarterback rating of 97.1 and has also added 245 yards and two touchdowns on the ground.Chase Daniel is Trubisky’s backup. Since 2014, Daniel has thrown just three NFL passes, earning just under $20 million during that time.Offensive lineThe Bears pass protection has been pretty solid so far this year. Trubisky has been sacked 14 times but several of those were because he held the ball too long. Having said that they do really on him to escape the rush at times too.The Bears are led by Charles Leno Jr., who has quietly developed into one of the league’s most reliable left tackles. Cody Whitehair at center gives them another solid young building block too.Kyle Long is the Bears’ highest paid lineman, as the right guard is in year three of a four-year, $40 million deal. Another veteran, Bobby Massie, is the right tackle. At left guard, former sixth round pick Eric Kush won the starting job over rookie James Daniels in camp, but has been sharing reps with Daniels over the past few games and has been ruled out on Sunday, so Daniels will make his first start.Chicago has plenty of experience on the bench with journeymen Bradley Sowell at tackle and Bryan Witzmann at guard having 36 career starts between them. Their most interesting reserve might be converted nose tackle Rashaad Coward, but he hasn’t played yet this year.Running BacksAt running back, leading rusher Jordan Howard is coming off a season where he racked up over 1,100 rushing yards and nine touchdowns. However, he’s averaging just 3.5 yards per carry this year.Youngster Tarik Cohen is creating a big buzz though, as the change of pace back is emerging as a force. Having caught 53 passes as a rookie, he is averaging almost five yards per carry and has 29 receptions already.Reserve Benny Cunningham and fullback Michael Burton haven’t played much yet this season.ReceiversAllen Robinson is the Bears’ highest-paid offensive player, but he’s been listed as questionable having missed a few practices earlier in the week. Robinson has 25 catches so far this year but the team’s leading receiver is actually Taylor Gabriel with 30.Off the bench, the Bears have Kevin White, who was the player selected after Leonard Williams in the 2015 draft. He’s been a big disappointment so far, as injuries have slowed his progress. Until last week, he had no catches this season, but he caught two passes against New England, including a Hail Mary pass that saw him stopped just a yard shy of the game-tying touchdown.Anthony Miller, a second-round rookie Cheap Leonard Williams Jersey , has had more immediate success than White with 11 catches and a couple of touchdowns. He’s a good athlete and a threat from the slot.Tight end Trey Burton, an offseason pickup, leads the Bears with four touchdown catches. His backup, Dion Sims, had a two-touchdown game against the Jets in 2016 while with Miami.Defensive lineThe Bears run a 3-4 system, anchored by veteran defensive end Akiem Hicks, who is a premier run stopper and has also chipped in with three sacks.Eddie Goldman and Jonathan Bullard, two former day two picks, are the starters at nose tackle and the other end position respectively. However, Roy Robertson-Harris and rookie Bilal Nichols also get plenty of rotational reps.LinebackersThe outlook for the Bears changed dramatically when they traded a haul of draft picks for Raiders edge defender and the former defensive player of the year, Khalil Mack, then signed him to a massive extension.Mack had been as good as advertised with five sacks and four forced fumbles in the first four games, but he’s been slowed by an ankle injury over the past few games and the Bears have been cautious with him in practice. Mack usually lines up almost exclusively on the left, but has been playing more on the right over the past few weeks, so Kelvin Beachum - who himself has been listed as questionable - might see more of Mack than anticipated. The other outside linebacker is Leonard Floyd, who is a good athlete but has made an underwhelming start to the season so far. Aaron Lynch is the Bears’ most experienced backup, as the former 49er has 17 career sacks. On the inside, the Bears pair a talented rookie - Roquan Smith - with an experienced veteran, leading tackler Danny Trevathan.Nick Kwiatkoski, a mid-round pick from two years ago, is typically the first linebacker off the bench.Defensive backsThe Bears have received excellent play from their cornerbacks this year with starters Kyle Fuller and Prince Amukamara putting up excellent coverage numbers along with nickelback Bryce Callahan. Fuller leads the team with three interceptions.Veteran Marcus Cooper has missed the last month with a hamstring injury but is now apparently ready to return to provide a further boost.Eddie Jackson, a fourth round pick last season, and Adrian Amos are the starting safeties. Deon Bush, another recent draft pick, is the third safety.Special teamsPlacekicker Cody Parkey got a new contract with $9 million in guarantees - the third highest of any kicker in the NFL - but his overtime miss against the Dolphins earlier this season cost the Bears a valuable win. He’s made 10 of his other 11 field goals this year though.Punter Pat O’Donnell is also coming off a rough game where the Patriots blocked one of his punts for a touchdown.Cohen is deadly in the return game. He’s averaging 12.5 yards per punt return this year. However, Cunningham and Miller have been handling kickoff duties so far.Cunningham is also a solid contributor in kick coverage, as are reserve defensive backs Sherrick McManis and DeAndre Houston-Carson. Usually, we like to exchange Q&As with the SB Nation blog of the opposing team the Jets will be facing in the coming week. However, we’re switching things up this week. Chris Blystone, representing Stampede Blue, has given us three reasons he thinks the Colts could lose on Sunday. In turn Cheap Brandon Copeland Jersey , I have given them three reasons I think the Jets could lose. Here are Chris’ responses. You can check out mine pertaining to the Jets here. Why will the Colts lose on Sunday?InjuriesThe Colts team has been ravaged by injuries this season. The sideline on Thursday night against the Patriots looked less like that of a football team and more like a makeshift emergency room. They’ll likely be without their top two receiving weapons again this week as top receiver T.Y. Hilton and tight end Jack Doyle are likely to be out.Eric Ebron has filled in effectively in Doyle’s absence and has been a productive red zone target. Except he also missed practice on Wednesday with a “shin/quad/ankle/knee” injury. I can only assume from this report that he was involved in a severe shark attack. When you add in that starting center Ryan Kelly didn’t practice with a calf injury and that the Colts just placed their starting right guard on IR with two broken vertebrae, this offense looks like one that could struggle. That is totally ignoring the defensive injuries, which are even more significant. The Colts signed veteran safety Mike Mitchell this week because literally their whole safety room was hurt. Malik Hooker didn’t practice and Clayton Geathers and Matthias Farley both seem unlikely to be available on Sunday. If Hooker can’t play, your guess is as good as mine as to who starts opposite Mitchell, although it is likely George Odum, whose name you don’t know for a reason.Thankfully, the Colts cornerbacks seem to be getting healthier, so that works in their favor, but the linebacker room is still thin as rookie standout Darius Leonard missed practice again with an ankle injury, and Anthony Walker was limited in his practice. All in all, the Jets are facing a Colts team that is operating at about half strength due to the parts they are missing. It is always tough to win on the road, but when you’re this banged up it is nearly impossible. No running gameThe Colts simply haven’t been able to put together any kind of consistent running game thus far in the season. Whether due to injury or circumstances, something has prevented them from ever really getting the running game going and that has made this team pretty one dimensional.Right now Andrew Luck leads the league in pass attempts. Getting starting left tackle Anthony Castonzo and starting running back Marlon Mack back this week will certainly help, but they have to make a concerted effort to move the ball on the ground. That should be easy against the Jets defensive line right? No? Great. In a game where so many of their receiving weapons are hurt, the Colts absolutely need to make the running game a factor and get those guys involved, because right now the running backs might be the healthiest position group on the roster. The problem is, they haven’t been able to do it all season, so there is not a lot of hope they will start Sunday.Inability to win in close gamesThe Colts have been in every game they’ve played this season. In fact, they’ve led the game in the second half of each of their games except against the Patriots. However, they have just 1 win to show for it. Mistakes, injuries, mental errors, and lack of talent are all to blame for the Colts simply being unable to grit out wins in close games.Given the Colts’ offensive injuries, that is problematic. In a best-case-scenario situation, the Colts will manage to keep this game close. Andrew Luck is still a phenomenal player and his receivers are bound to catch at least some of the passes thrown their way. However, if the game is close, the Colts simply haven’t proven they can get the win. With so many key players either missing or likely playing at less than 100%, there is not any reason to expect them to suddenly buck the trend of snatching defeat from the jaws of victory.
for game-breaking catch The Denver Broncos were down 12-0 at halftime Womens Jake Butt Jersey , then down 19-10 late in the fourth quarter. Then Case Keenum took over. In his final two drives, he led the Broncos to a touchdown and then a last second field goal to secure the 20-19 win over the Oakland Raiders. With a fury of a comeback like that, there will certainly be some game balls to give out for this one. Let’s start things off with the man who made the win possible with a fantastic catch and run that made the winning field goal attempt that much easier of an attempt. Tim PatrickIn a game where our wide receivers had 1/4 of their catches nullified by the refs, Tim Patrick made sure there wasn’t any such nonsense on the last play of the game to get the Broncos into winning field goal range. What a great play by a guy who’s the 4th or 5th WR on the depth chart. It says a lot that Keenum trusted him late in the game with the pass and he showed great savvy getting every yard he could and going out of bounds when it was clear he couldn’t house it. - SadaraineEditor’s note: Speaking of the referees...Brandon McManusBrandon McManus continued his hot start to the season going 2 for 2 on extra points, and 2 for 2 on field goals. Giving a game ball to a kicker may seem ridiculous, but when you kick the game winner you earn some love. The Broncos offense sputtered throughout the first half, but McManus was ready every time he was called upon, and money with the game on the line. Watching the rest of the kickers in the NFL struggle in the clutch really helps you appreciate what he has been able to do in the first two weeks of the season. - Adam MalnatiCase KeenumHis stats line looked pedestrian, with only 222 yards and an INT (because the refs think this is 2017 and not 2018). But that doesn’t paint the full picture. In this game, which was too close for comfort, Keenum kept his cool and remained calm, and when the chips were down, he delivered. How about that designed QB sneak for 8 yards that took EVERYONE by surprise? How about pulling a “Brady” and going in on a QB sneak on 4th freaking down instead of trying for the FG? That takes onions the size of Vidalia’s. Then on the final drive, when all hope is lost, backed up 2nd & 20 on our own 10, does he press and freak out? No, he remains cool under pressure and delivers strike after strike after strike. Next thing you know, we’re lining McMoney up for a chip shot extra point at 36 yards and sending Oakland home with their tails between their legs. Case Keenum has this team at 2-0, and even though it wasn’t pretty, we came out with a much needed victory. - Pete BaronShaquil BarrettNot often a guy who blocks an extra point gets a gameball, but Barrett’s play proved to be the difference. As he did in Week One against the Seattle Seahawks, he finds a way to make an impact whenever he’s on the field. Here’s hoping we start to see Barrett on the field more in the coming weeks. - Ian St. ClairPhillip LindsayPhillip Lindsay gets my game ball. When the offense was dead in the water in the first half Womens Garett Bolles Jersey , he was the only spark of life. He finished the game with 14 carries for 107 yard to go with 1 catch for 4 yards. Even you discount his beautiful 53 yard scamper, he still had 54 yards on his other 13 carries (4.2 ypc). Lindsay was the best ball-carrier on the team in the first two games and he appears to only be getting better. I love that Musgrave is getting him the ball with 17 touches in the first game and 15 touches in the second game. - Joe MahoneyBill MusgraveAfter a horrendous start by the offense, Bill Musgrave went back to the drawing board at half and changed things up, adding in hurry up elements that kept the Raiders on their heels. Add in two gutsy calls on a read option and QB sneak on 4th and goal, and Musgrave is a big piece of how Denver pulled off this comeback - Jeff EssaryWho gets your game ball for helping the Broncos win this game? Share in the comments section below.Future Broncos: An early look at Denver’s 2019 NFL Draft needs It wasn’t too long ago that the Denver Broncos finished selecting their 2018 NFL Draft class — which was met with rave reviews across various outlets.Through OTA’s, training camp and the preseason, many of the Broncos’ selections have impressed and looked poised to make an impact in their rookie campaigns. Third-round pick Royce Freeman is your starting running back and will be the franchise’s bell-cow in the backfield. Second-round wide receiver Courtland Sutton showed glimpses of greatness during the offseason and will prove to be a significant upgrade for the team’s aerial assault. Last but not least, defensive players Bradley Chubb and Josey Jewell appear to ready to hit the ground running and provide a significant boost for the Broncos’ defense and be long-time, high-caliber starters in the league. So while we are all eager to see how they perform in 2018, it’s never to early to get the discussion rolling on what’s on the horizon for the Broncos and their potential future needs in the 2019 NFL Draft.Offensive TackleThe Broncos are hopeful 2017 first-round selection Garett Bolles takes a major leap forward in his second season and the team acquired long-time veteran Jared Veldheer to upgrade their right tackle spot this year. Unfortunately, Veldheer is getting older in age and in the final year of his contract, so fans shouldn’t expect him to be a long-term solution to the continuous problem the franchise has had at the position. Furthermore, neither Billy Turner or Elijah Wilkinson project as future starters — so the Broncos should be diligent in their scouting of this year’s offensive tackle crop to solidify the position for the future.Alabama offensive tackle Jonah Williams is the blue-chip prospect at the position this year, but unless the franchise secures a top ten draft selection, they will have no shot at getting him — so it’ll be wise to look elsewhere. A handful of other prospects such as Chris Lindstrom of Boston College, Yodny Cajuste of West Virginia, Dalton Risner of Kansas State and Bobby Evans of Oklahoma will merit early round consideration and would provide the team with a viable solution at the right tackle spot for years to come.Four other names with Broncos’ connections to keep an eye on are Washington tackles Trey Adams and Kaleb McGary, who were both coached early on in their collegiate careers by current Denver offensive tackle coach Chris Strausser. Additionally, Wisconsin standouts David Edwards and Michael Dieter man are coached by Paul Chryst, the brother of Broncos’ tight end coach Geep Chryst — leaving little doubt that they will be high on the team’s list of players to scout at the position.Interior Defensive LineDenver’s defensive line looks to be a significant strength entering their 2018 campaign, but perhaps the biggest question mark for the team is who will man down the nose tackle spot in the future. Long-time veteran Domata Peko Sr. had a tremendous year with the Broncos last season, but is in the final year of a two-year deal. Moreover http://www.denverbroncosteamonline.com/todd-davis-jersey , the team has virtually no depth or long-term prospects in the wings at the position.Alabama’s Raekwon Davis and Houston’s Ed Oliver headline an extremely versatile and deep interior defensive line class, but both should be long gone before the Broncos make their first selection. Clemson’s Christian Wilkins would have likely been a first-round pick had he entered this past draft, but opted to return to Clemson to earn his degree and help the Tigers in their pursuit of a championship. His teammate, junior underclassmen Dexter Lawrence is a gigantic presence on the defensive interior at 6’4, 350 pounds and is known for being a great run defender and opening up opportunities for those around him to get after the quarterback. He admitted he was playing injured all of last season, so if he stays healthy and performs well this year, he should easily be a first-round pick.Demarcus Christmas of Florida State and Ricky Walker of Virginia Tech are two other players to take note of throughout the college football season and are likely Day 2 draft selections, but a sleeper name to keep in mind is Jeffrey Simmons of Mississippi State — who has top-flight skills, but major character concerns that could cause him to slide when April comes around.CornerbackWith the league continuously evolving in respect to the passing game, finding quality defensive backs who can cover continues to be a premium for teams in the NFL Draft — with large amounts of prospects being taken early and often. Chris Harris Jr. is undoubtedly one of the best corners in the game and the team has big hopes for Bradley Roby, who will replace the jettisoned Aqib Talib this year. However, Roby is a free agent after this season and if the Broncos want to keep him, they will have to bring in the Brinks truck. The franchise brought in Adam Jones and Tramaine Brock on one-year deals, so it’s safe to say they aren’t long-term options for the team. Furthermore, while I was high on Isaac Yiadom in last year’s draft — he has a ways to go before he is ready to be a starter in this league and it’s doubtful that former third-round pick and practice squad relegate Brendan Langley ever becomes the starting caliber player the Broncos’ hoped they would be when he was selected two years ago. This year’s corner class is a bit thin compared to the past several drafts, but still has a handful of quality prospects that can be starters in the league. The highlight of the group is Louisiana State phenom Greedy Williams, who had an incredible 2017 campaign with six interceptions. Florida State’s Levonta Taylor is also a first-round caliber player and elite cover man, but is extremely undersized at 5’10 and 180 pounds. Other names to consider are Clemson underclassmen Trayvon Mullen and Deandre Baker of Georgia, who each registered three interceptions last year and appear to have their best football ahead of them. I’ll give you two more: Damon Arnette of Ohio State and Julian Blackmon out of Utah are two of my favorite underlcassmen prospects who could rise significantly if they perform well this year and most certainly have a chance to be high picks in 2019.
in Week 6 Youth Shaquem Griffin Jersey , it was initially expected Marshawn Lynch would miss a month. On Monday, that timeline increased considerably. Lynch, a Seahawks legend, was placed on injured reserve by the Raiders on Monday, halting what was an excellent comeback season. Through six games, Lynch was rushing for over four yards per carry and had scored three touchdowns, while playing predominately in the first half of games. The bruising runner had dropped weight in the offseason and looked considerably more spry than in his first season in Oakland. The Raiders are yet to designate anyone for return off the injured reserve in 2018, meaning Lynch could return in eight weeks. However, with Lynch’s contract set to expire following the season, and Doug Martin and Jalen Richard also in the picture, it seems unlikely Oakland would use one of their return designations on the veteran back. Lynch has looked considerably better than Martin, another pending free agent Womens Barkevious Mingo Jersey , in 2018. There’s a chance Lynch could return to the Raiders in 2019, should there be interest from both parties. If Lynch has indeed played his final NFL game, going out against Seattle seems fitting. And, more importantly, he gave his fans, in his city, this wonderfully Marshawn moment: Fresh off of their bye week, the Seattle Seahawks (3-3) return to action against the Detroit Lions (3-3) in an important Week 8 matchup in the Motor City. It’s the first time Seattle has played at Detroit since 2012, a game that ended in a 28-24 loss for the Seahawks in a back-and-forth encounter. The previous two Seahawks-Lions meetings were in Seattle, and the Lions only scored a combined 19 points and lost them both. Both teams enter this game having won three of their last four. Seattle thrashed the Oakland Raiders in London 27-3 two weeks ago, while the Lions came off their bye last week and took care of the Miami Dolphins 32-21 in Miami. The Seahawks offense has come alive over the past two weeks, and now the defense will get star linebacker K.J. Wright back Womens Nick Vannett Jersey , and most likely rookie DL Rasheem Green. As for Matt Patricia’s group, their much-maligned defense may get a boost in run support thanks to a midweek trade for former New York Giants standout Damon “Snacks” Harrison. It should be a compelling, important contest with early playoff implications at stake. Do you stick with Blake Bortles who is playing some of the worst football of his professional career? Or do you make the switch and see if backup Cody Kessler can provide a spark for an offense in desperate need of a win. From how head coach Doug Marrone spoke yesterday after Monday’s practice Black A. J. Cann Jersey , it looks like Bortles is the guy going forward. When asked about the severity of Bortles’ injury, the way Marrone spoke it seemed to communicate that him continuing as the starter was a foregone conclusion.“He took his normal throws today, he took all of his throws and you guys saw him out there throwing,” Marrone said. “It’s early in the week and we will just see how it goes. Your evaluation on how he looks will be the same as mine. I just saw he took the normal throws during practice. When he was out there throwing, you guys were out there.”Marrone doesn’t split snaps in practice ahead of regular season games, so if Bortles is throwing it means Kessler likely isn’t. That’s a mistake, in my opinion, and it’s a lack of accountability by Marrone. If Bortles is indeed the guy on Sunday against the Indianapolis Colts — whether by Marrone’s choice or because they just don’t have a better guy on the roster — is still a failing by the coaching staff and front office.5 questions with The Daily Norseman: Joint practice week The Jacksonville Jaguars and Minnesota Vikings are currently participating in joint practices in Eagan, Minnesota, as the teams prepare for a preseason tilt on Saturday at U.S. Bank Stadium. To help us get to know the 2018 Vikings team better, and to give us some perspective on what to expect from the Vikings during joint practices and this weekend’s game, I talked to Christopher Gates from The Daily Norseman — SB Nation’s insightful Minnesota Vikings community.Let’s see what he had to say...1. The Vikings and Jaguars are arguably the two best defensive units in the league. All biases aside, which defense would you rather have and why?Christopher: I’m not sure if there’s really a “wrong” answer here, since we’re probably talking about the two best defenses in the league. Both teams have legitimate stars on all three levels Womens Calais Campbell Jersey , thanks to a combination of drafting well and making smart signings in free agency. The Vikings have the advantage of going into their fifth season of the same defensive scheme since Mike Zimmer was hired, and it’s tough to understate just how big that is. If we were to base it strictly on talent alone, however, I think that the slight edge might have to go to the Jaguars. I haven’t crunched the numbers, but I think the Jaguars might be slightly younger across the board on defense than the Vikings are, as the Vikings have a couple of key pieces that have been in the league for a while (Everson Griffen and Linval Joseph were both drafted in 2010, Harrison Smith in 2012), while I think that most of the Jaguars key defensive players are fairly young. It’s a very, very close race, but yeah...slight edge to Jacksonville overall.2. How do you think joint practices — with different schemes, players and plays from the opposing squad — will help both teams prepare for not only this week’s game, but the rest of the preseason? It should be nice for them to hit somebody other than themselves in practice, eh?Christopher: I do think we’ve gotten to the point where the team needs to see someone other than the guys on the same sideline as they are. Obviously we saw what happened in Jacksonville a few days ago with Dante Fowler, and the Vikings had a few scraps leading up to their preseason opener against the Broncos. I think it’s going to be very good for these two teams to see each other Authentic Leonard Fournette Jersey , and from the Vikings’ perspective I think it’s going to be helpful to take on one of the NFL’s best defenses (and I’m sure that Jacksonville’s offense will get the same benefit from going against the Minnesota defense). Even without Jalen Ramsey along for the ride this week, the Jaguars are a premier defense, and it’s going to be a real test for the new-look Vikings’ offense to square off with a group like that. Frankly, even if it isn’t the regular season, the Jaguars’ defense might be the best defense the Vikings see this season, and it should be fun to watch.3. It was in limited action, but Kirk Cousins (Go Green!) definitely looked the part in the Vikings preseason opener. Are you sold on Cousins (and his fully guaranteed contract), or are you taking more of a wait-and-see approach with Minnesota’s new signal-caller?Christopher:Obviously we’d like to see how things go for more than eight plays for the Vikings’ offense, but I do think that Cousins is in for a huge year in 2018. This is probably the best group of skill position players that he’s been surrounded by since he’s been in the NFL, with the return of Dalvin Cook at running back and the Stefon Diggs/Adam Thielen duo on the outside. The Vikings’ offensive line is going to be a sticking point this year, as it was last season (and the season before that. . .and the season before that. . .and the season before that), but I have a feeling that (offensive coordinator) John DeFilippo is going to be able to do a lot of things to mitigate those issues and put Cousins in a position to succeed. Even though the Vikings’ No. 1 offense was only on the field for eight snaps against Denver, they managed to use five different personnel groupings, and that’s going to help keep defenses off-balance and hopefully allow Minnesota to reach their full potential. Case Keenum took the Vikings on a hell of a ride last season Authentic Logan Cooke Jersey , but I do think that Cousins gives them the potential to reach even greater heights.4. Are there any young players/roster bubble guys on the Vikings you are hoping to see something from on Saturday? Are there any Jaguar players you are excited to see play?Christopher: I’m not sure if you can consider a former first-round pick a “bubble guy,” but I’d really like to see something...anything...out of Laquon Treadwell on Saturday. We’ve heard all summer about how he’s gotten better and he’s been getting rave reviews in camp so far, but managed to go without a catch last week (Editor’s note — Treadwell actually had one catch for three yards. H/T to commenter NMVike). The Vikings need a third receiving threat to take some heat off of Thielen and Diggs, and I think most of us are hoping that Treadwell is the guy. As far as the defense, I’m looking to see how the battle for the backup spots on the defensive line is going to shake out. We know that the starters are set, and the Vikings have a lot of interesting talent as potential backups at all four spots on the defensive front. Players like Tashawn Bower, Jaleel Johnson, Jalyn Holmes, and Stephen Weatherly (among others) are going to be fighting for spots, and their time to make an impression is running out. As far as the Jaguars side of things, I think most Vikings fans will definitely be keeping an eye on some of the offensive line prospects from Jacksonville. The Vikings, as we’ve mentioned already, have some significant offensive line issues, and we’ll pretty much be looking at all the teams the Vikings play this preseason to see if anyone that their opponents might give up on is worth a shot as a developmental prospect or even a potential contributor.5. The Jaguars and Vikings are coming off of similar seasons Womens Yannick Ngakoue Jersey , both losing in the conference championship games. What do the Vikings need to do to get past that level and win the NFC this season?Christopher: On defense, the Vikings need to find a way to give their front-line players, particularly on the defensive line, a little bit more of a rest over the course of the year. Last season, guys like Everson Griffen were playing entirely too many snaps for a team that’s supposed to be rotating defensive linemen, and I think it started to wear them down toward the end of the season. That’s why the depth chart behind the starters on the d-line is going to be so important this preseason. As far as the offensive side, the key is going to be the offensive line, whether it’s developing players to the point where the quality of play starts to go up or finding a way to scheme around it so that the offense can function to its capabilities. Even with those issues, the Vikings were a 13-3 team last season and appear (on paper, at least) to have gotten better, so if they can get those issues squared away, there’s really no prediction that you can make for this team that could be considered unrealistic.A big thank you to Christopher for providing such in-depth analysis and giving his opinions on certain aspects.
